(we do not recommend people try fix their own plumbing)
No Hot Water?
No hot water can be due to a range of issues; Hot water cylinders devices have many important parts to ensure they produce safe tempered water and can heat with out increasing the pressure of the tank. If you have an electric hot water cylinder, there could be an electrical fault, the element may have blown or the thermostat may be faulty. On top of issues with the heating the safety valves can also fail, hot water tempering valves that ensure the hot water cannot burn you will fail in a ‘cold’ position, meaning the water may be heating but not being allowed to get to the taps.
Gas cylinders can have similar issues with valves and safety measures, in some cases the pilot light that ignites the gas to heat the water can blow out, stopping the flow of hot water as the tank cools from lack of heat.
Hot water devices are complicated, therefor it is always best to have a professional take a look at the issue first.
Water Leak?
A water leak can be a daunting sight. But these can vary in severity. If the leak is coming from somewhere away from plumbing fixtures (e.g a light in the ceiling) this could be a split water pipe or a leaking drain. The fastest way to tell is whether the leak is always there i.e pressured water pipe, or infrequent i.e a waste or water pipe from an irregularly used fixture or fitting such as a bath. In all scenarios a plumber will be able to track down the source and provide the best solution. Don’t go cutting holes in the roof just yet…
High Water Bill?
A very common issue that is often due to things going down the toilet that shouldn’t. If the toilet is blocked by a hidden object you are best to call a plumber, the unit may need to be removed if there is not external access to the drain.
Toilets may also be blocked due to an issue further down the line such a roots in the drain. This is often the case in older suburbs that have Earthenware drains, roots find their way in through the joins in the ceramic pipe and cause all sorts of issues. Drains can be unblocked and roots cut with the correct equiptment.

Bad Water Pressure?
If you have noticed a drop in water pressure throughout your house, there could be a blockage in the system. Sometimes this follows work by the council on the street, debris flows down the line and blocks filters and taps. It also could be old galvanised plumbing that has corroded allowing less water flow. pressure valves around hot water cylinder and water filters can also cause issues.
